Description
Half Bridge resonant SMPS capable of delivering 500W continuous and up to 600W peak power. The output voltages are adjustable within approx. 5-10% range. It uses zero-voltage switching half bridge resonant topology. The main advantage is lower size and cost compared with a similar regulated SMPS and better efficiency, up to 95% compared with the regulated SMPS’s due to the fact that the transistors are soft-switched, and the current through the switches has sinusoidal shape, and there are no output inductors. The SMPS features overcurrent protection which limit the output current at about 120% of the maximum peak power, about 600W. For best performances, there are few power supply versions, optimized for the Input and Output voltage values, increasing the overall efficiency and maximum power capability.
This power supply is suitable for both class AB and class D/T amplifiers, which have the PSRR greater or at least 54dB. Each SMPS500R is configured for 230V mains voltage or 120V mains voltage upon order. The SMPS500R version boards are almost identical, the main differences are the mains side bulk capacitor one single large capacitor for the SMPS500R 230V only version and two smaller capacitors connected in series or parallel for the second version as well as the SMPS500R-LP version. To configure the 120V SMPS500R version to operate with 120V mains voltage, a jumper is connected on a designated position Target applications for this power supply unit include the TA3020 based amplifiers and IRS2092 amplifiers for the +-55V version and multiple TDA892x or TA2022 amplifiers for the +-30V or +-36V version.
The SMPS500R-LP is the latest addition to the series, it features a slimmer design which can be as slim as 27mm for the custom made version while maintaining the performance and increased efficiency.
